Sunday Work Party

Although the river was up a touch, we did manage to do a limited survey adjacent to the island up stream of Llay road bridge. The current was too strong against the left bank which was a pity and will now have to wait until next year as we are not allowed to do this work after the end of September. We were fortunate to get help from Ian Doyle which was, I hope, not his last visit to our water. The results can only be regarded as a snapshot of the stock and we have not transferred the data to the NRW as it can't be included in the official reports. Our general view is that we collected enough stock to at least provide some encouragement that the river is holding it's own. We caught three salmonids, four sticklebacks, a stone loach, five eels and 175 bullheads. The latter are prolific in the water and as their habitat is hugging the bottom and tucked into the stones where perhaps the water is not always the best quality, it implies that it can't be too bad both for the fish and the egg production.

Obituary

We regret to report the death of Michael Manley a long and steadfast member of this Club who even over the last couple of years when he has been too poorly to fish, he has kept up his interest in what we are doing in the way of bank work and his membership. The Club were represented at his funeral which took place at Chester Crematorium on Friday 8th September and we have offered our sympathies to his widow and son.

Fly Tying Group

Dates have now been set for our winter Fly Tying Group. This group meets fortnightly through the late autumn and winter months at the Rossett & Burton Village Hall. This group was set up by our club and the Ceiriog Club, it is open to all (members or not) however we are limited to a maximum of 12. All levels catered for, no previous experience needed and a basic kits can be supplied. The  cost remains the same as last year at £5 per evening. Please drop me a note to confirm a place at e.j.wilkinson@hotmail.co.uk
